The Amsterdam University College Scholarship Fund supports excellence and diversity in the AUC student body by easing access to the Amsterdam University College program for talented and underrepresented students.
The Amsterdam University College Scholarship Fund candidates and Talent Fellows enrich the university’s community by transforming the student body and bringing a wide depth of knowledge, experiences, and thoughts.
In a multicultural city such as Amsterdam, exceptional underrepresented students must be not only invited to join AUC’s selective honors program but are granted the means to participate. So through the fellowships and scholarships offered by the ASF, talented students can work toward academic success and realize their huge potential.
However, donations from a variety of sponsors and stakeholders support the ASF, and together with Amsterdam University College, the ASF empowers the next generation of change-makers and international leaders.
The Amsterdam University College Scholarship Fund is an independent, separate foundation (Stichting) run by the ASF Board. Amsterdam University College is a public liberal arts college in the Netherlands with an enrolment of almost 900 students from over 60 countries all teaching in English.
The college was established in 2009 as a joint initiative of the University of Amsterdam and the VU Amsterdam with a specific focus on the natural sciences. Though Amsterdam University College has its campus, students can also use the facilities of both parent universities.
The Amsterdam University College is part of a recent wave of university colleges in the Netherlands which have introduced liberal arts education to the country. The college offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in the social sciences and humanities and a Bachelor of Science degree in science, which are pursued by about 50%, 15%, and 33% of the student body, respectively.
Its curriculum is strongly interdisciplinary; within each field, students have to pursue at least two disciplines. The Amsterdam University College further emphasizes its academic core, which makes up a large part of the curriculum.
In addition, the foundation of the Amsterdam University College goes back to an initiative of the two large universities in Amsterdam, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), as well as the municipality.
The college is also part of an initiative to make Amsterdam a hub for research and development in the natural sciences. Furthermore, the Amsterdam University College was officially formed in 2008 and took up operation with its founding class in 2009.
In the 2016 Keuzegids Universiteiten, the Amsterdam University College earned a designation as a top-ranked program based on student ratings and assessment by the Accreditation Organization of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO).
