Since its inception in 1870 during the gold rush, Federation University Dispensaries has been the fourth oldest tertiary education institution in Australia.
It was renamed Federation University in 2014 with the amalgamation of the University of Ballarat and Monash University’s Gippsland campus.

Legislation to establish Federation University Australia was enacted in Victoria’s Parliament on September 6, 2013. In 2014, the name change was made official. The name change was justified by the then Vice-Chancellor as an effort to expand the university’s reach nationally and worldwide, and as a way to be fair to the university’s other campuses.
Aside from ‘State University of Victoria’ and ‘Eureka University,’ this was the favored name within the university, as opposed to ‘Robert Menzies University,’ or ‘Vida Goldstein University.’ Bella Guerin, Australia’s first female university graduate, used to sleep in the director’s office at the CRCAH. The historic School of Mines buildings are also part of the campus.

Eligibility criteria for the UFS Dispensaries Scholarship at Federation University
- Students from outside the United States are required to apply.
- Applicants must begin their studies in 2022 or later.
- Applicants must be enrolled for the whole year following the census date and be in good standing.
- Academic IELTS Overall score of 6.0 is the English Language Requirement for business and general science programs.
